TITUS ANDRONICUS

by William Shakespeare

Directed by Ivana Palezevic

“Rome is but a wilderness of tigers"

Before Quentin Tarantino films and the Games of Thrones phenomenon, William Shakespeare wrote a dark play that made us question the value of revenge and violence in civilisation. The story of Titus Andronicus, a general from the Roman Empire, has now been transported to the 21st century in a world of suits, cars and social media.

Rome is politically divided with the death of its emperor and so begins a campaign for leadership of the nation.

Titus, head of security at the royal palace, returns with his sons from a long war against the Goths and brings with him the royal family as prisoners lead by their queen, Tamora.  Titus makes a series of decisions that causes the Goths to rise to power in Rome. Thus begins a cycle of revenge between Tamora and Titus that will see the downfall of the prestigious Andronicus family.

Lonely Shakespeare Collective will present Shakespeare’s first tragedy in a new and interactive way, showcasing the dark comedy and family relationships over its reputable gore.

Please note: this show contains violence and suggestions of sexual violence. We recommend adult and mature teen viewers only.
