(Note: This does not affect Summer School students).

What’s happening?

We have moved to a different version of Moodle, from Moodle 1.9 to Moodle 2.0

When did that happen?

On 9 January 2012 the new version of Moodle (Moodle 2.0) became available. The old version of Moodle (Moodle 1.9) became unavailable to both students and staff.

How does it affect me?

Moodle will look different.  Once logged in you will notice you have a My Courses area, a My Private Files area, and Settings and Navigation panels. For more detail on how to use these, check the guide to Moodle for students in the Main Menu area of the Moodle front page.

What do I need to do differently?

Not much. You still get to Moodle in the same ways you always have. If you have Moodle links bookmarked (on your Favourites) you might need to update these links.

Log in as usual. Your User name is still your student number. Your Password is whatever you changed it to and is still the same as your computer password). If you have allowed your password to expire over the summer break, to have it reset contact:

  • Helpdesk:  helpdesk@whitireia.ac.nz
  • Online Learning Centre:  online@whitireia.ac.nz , or,
  • if you are at the Porirua campus, you can call in to the Poutama Learning Services desk inside the main doors of the library (Te Kete Wananga) and staff there will help you reset your password.

How do I find my course?

Click on the My Courses link. Your courses will be listed in there and you click on the course name to go to it.

You are automatically enrolled into your course when you have been accepted for it and have reached a certain status in the enrolment process. If your course is not appearing, it could be that your enrolment status has not reached the correct stage. Allow a day or two and then check again.

If you still experience difficulty in reaching your course, first contact your tutor and, only if they can’t help, contact online@whitireia.ac.nz . Your course needs to be checked and made available to you by your tutor, so make sure you have contacted them first to check the course is available, before contacting Online Learning Centre staff.
