  • What is Readspeaker?

ReadSpeaker is a text-to-speech application that allows text onscreen to be read back to users. ReadSpeaker has built a plugin that can be integrated into Moodle that allows students to selectively choose text on the screen to be read back.  This includes reading back any text within documents that tutors have uploaded and shared on Moodle.

ReadSpeaker’s listen functionality can be activated in Moodle on a course-by-course basis. Learners can listen to HTML content as well as documents with the ReadSpeaker functionality, a complete enhancement of the learning experience!

  • ReadSpeaker and Te Reo Māori

ReadSpeaker has not yet been developed to read Te Reo Māori language appropriately. We suggest that you use the following disclaimer when using ReadSpeaker in your Moodle courses.

“ReadSpeaker has not yet been developed to read Te Reo Māori. ReadSpeaker will attempt to pronounce Māori words but the pronunciation should not be treated as accurate. Whitireia makes no representation about the accuracy of translations of Māori words and phrases through the ReadSpeaker service. In no event shall Whitireia be liable for any direct or indirect damages in any way connected with the use of ReadSpeaker.”
