Please find the latest information regarding the new MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway that is under construction on the Kapiti Coast.
This week, earthworks start on the southern area of Kapiti road very close to the Campus. This entails the removal of existing material and the building up of base metal for the Kapiti Road over-bridge and subsequent on / off ramps onto Kapiti Road. Later in July, the contractors will start on the Northern side of Kapiti Road carrying out the same process. The impact on our Campus may include vibration, noise, etc, but luckily, at this time of year, no dust or sand, as the ground is quite damp. Also, as with any road works, at various times there may be access issues along Kapiti Road or Milne Drive, but these will be very limited.
On top of the new expressway work, the Kapiti Coast District Council is widening Kapiti Road, moving the intersections and installing new traffic lights beside the Kapiti Campus. This work is programmed for completion within the next 3 weeks. At this stage, this work has caused minor nuisance for staff and students but I’m sure we will all be pleased when the work is finished.
