What is Matariki...
“Matariki” mean’s the eyes of God Mata ariki or matariki ‘ Little eyes’. Matariki is the Māori name for the small cluster of stars known as the Pleiades or the seven sisters. Located in the Taurus constellation, that appears in the trail of the Milky Way in different parts of the country and around the world. Well known to appear in the last days of May or in early June. This heralds the Māori New Year.
