Today is the beginning of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week 2012. As promised last week here is the first in a number of emails that will be sent out this week to give you more tips and helpful hints so that you can help celebrate this auspicious occasion with the rest of the country. Such has been the growth of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori that national institutions like the New Zealand Herald and Taranaki Daily News have changed their mastheads for the week!
Here is a simple way that you can help increase the awareness of te reo Māori. You can use this karakia when starting and closing your lessons perhaps.

Attached is the 2012 Phrase booklet and a poster that you can use at home in your dining room shows the Māori words for everyday items you might find there. Both can be printed off easily and if you need any help at all don’t hesitate to get in contact with either Justin Puna or myself.
